WELSH CHAMPIONSHIP - 14th April 2009

Welsh Championship. Whitchurch, Cardiff. 10-14 April 2009.

Congratulations to Ioan Rees (Caerphilly) for winnig the Welsh Championship, with a score of 6/7

Also to Richard Hanscombe (Barry) who won the Major Open, also with a score of 6/7.

GRADING COMMITTEE STATEMENT - 27th March 2009

It has become clear that ratings near the bottom of the WCU list are too low.

The Grading Committee has unanimously agreed to implement the following measures.

1 - The rating floor is increased to 850, retrospective to Jan. 1st

2 - All ratings below 1000 will be reviewed after 8 and 16 games, and increased if necessary.  Any adjustment will be backdated to Jan. 1st.

3 - A full review will be carried out before the publication of the next list.  This may lead to increases for some players rated just above 1000.


WEB SITE CHANGES - 22nd March 2009

I have made a few changes to the Web Site.

Player Lists are now available for Live Rating Order, Rating Improvement Order, Most Active Order and Junior Players.

The Alec Wood Memorial can now be found on the Live Ratings page.

All Player Lists are now Colour-coded for Juniors and New Players.

New Rating List published.  Effective from 1 January 2009.  Previous data is available in the Archive


ANNOUNCEMENT - 20/12/2008

A few small changes:-

  • No minimum number of games for a first rating
  • Rating floor of 750
  • Batch sizes of 25 games
  • K-factors determined as follows: -
    Over 2000 K=16
    1600-1999 K=24
    Under 1600 K=32

Changes agreed and adopted across all WCU zones.  Effective from 1 January 2009.
